Speeds & Feeds in stainless steel - Practical MachinistFeb 18, 2007 · I've been working with surgical grade stainless steel on Star and Citizen swiss style lathes. We mainly use 17-4, 455, 440A, and 440C. Recently I have started programming with Partmaker CAD/CAM offline. Without being at the lathe when these programs are setup and ran, I am having trouble optimizing these programs.
The numbers 17-4 refer to its composition: 17% chromium and 4% nickel. It also can include between 3 and 5% copper. It is the most common material used in the production of Setras variable capacitance transducers.
